| According to ISSF the global stainless steel melting activities increased by 24.9% to a new record high of 30.7 million metric tons (mmt). This came after 3 years of declining stainless steel production driven by stock cycles and global economic crises. The strong recovery of the global stainless steel production has several reasons: economic recovery, strong end-use demand, re-stocking at service centers and fabricators and also the re-filling of the internal supply chain in the stainless steel mills which alone can count for half a million tons.

| Borealis recently announced that Clive Watson has decided to leave the Group to take on the role of Group Finance Director with Spectris plc, a leading supplier of precision instrumentation and controls, based in Surrey, England. Clive has been with Borealis for almost 5 years and during that time was responsible for Finance, Legal, IT&S and numerous change projects. He will leave on September 30th, 2006.
Clive Watson will be succeeded, on an interim basis, by Markku Korvenranta currently Vice President of Business Planning & Analysis, while an external search for his successor takes place.

| It was a lucky day at Wethersfield Country Club in Connecticut on June 12th for the annual Wire & Cable Manufacturers’ Alliance (WCMA) Bob Mansfield Memorial Golf Outing. The 117
golfers enjoyed a beautiful sunny day on the prestigious course, camaraderie and industry
networking. The annual charity raffle and silent auction raised $4,000 for cancer research,
surpassing last year’s donation. The finale came as WCMA member, Ken Strandberg of T & T
Marketing, Inc. made a 170 yard hole-in-one at hole #5, winning the top prize of $15,000 cash
through the National Hole-In-One Association’s Certificate Program.

You could say that everything you see here represents a child’s frustration,’ says Weighpack InternationaL President, Andries P. Kout, surveying the production floor at the company’s new facility in The Hague. Maybe not the most conventional introduction to a business, but it’s an apt way to discover the core of why and how Weighpack has grown to be a world acknowledged specialist in fastener packaging technology.
Andries Kout’s family started importing screws from the United States lust after the Second World War. It was in that business that he first hand packed and sorted screws using a simple balance scale, an example of which stilt sits on the window ledge of his office. Eventually the family company was to employ 40 people simply to pack and sort screws.
I learnt the importance of sorting screws then,’ recalls Andries Kout. “When we received the kegs you would find all the different sizes that had been caught in the heat treatment mesh or the plating barrel and contaminated the next batch.’

| The UK and Irish cable industry has seen many closures over the past 18 months.
Others have moved to co-extrusion or just stopped ring marking.
The decision was taken in February to wind down Tiger Inks and to transfer the remaining business to ONINK LTD.
The same contacts and staff will now continue to produce the high quality band marking and gravure inks to which the industry has become accustomed.
