| Warships are cabled for the future

| The supply of cabling for the fifth of six warships in the new Type 45 Anti-Air Warfare Destroyer programme is being made to the Royal Navy by UK based AEI Cables.
Control cables and medium voltage main power distribution cables are among an extensive range of cables being delivered for the programme to prime contractor BAE Systems.

| Dubai Cables Company Private Ltd. (Ducab) has inaugurated its first copper rod plant and the new cable factory today morning at the Mussafah industrial area. The US$45 million copper rod plant, which is the first copper rod factory in the UAE, has a capacity of 110, 000 ton per annum.
The two facilities were unveiled by Sheikh Hamed bin Zayed al Nahyan, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Court and Chairman of the Higher Corporation for Specialised Economic Zones - ZonesCorp. A large number of dignitaries, including ministers, senior officials, Ducab customers and suppliers attended the inauguration ceremony of the state-of-the-art factories.

| Wire-rope specialists Casar and Teijin Aramid have developed a unique hybrid cable especially for the mining sector that combines a Twaron-fiber core with an outside layer of steel wire.
Until now, this sector favored all-steel cables for strength and durability. However, this new hybrid cable has a much better strength-to-weight ratio – it is just as strong, but much lighter than an all-steel cable of the same diameter.

| An ABB performance-related service agreement has enabled Outokumpu to reduce maintenance costs at a Swedish steel mill by 58 percent while simultaneously increasing production by 80 percent.
Since 2001, the ABB Full Service agreement has enabled Outokumpu Stainless, in Sweden, to achieve a number of improvements at its Degerfors steel mill in Sweden. These include: a reduction in maintenance staff by 30 percent: a 25 percent decline in total maintenance costs: a 58 percent per ton drop in maintenance costs

| British manufacturer PWM, which designs and manufactures high-performance cold welding equipment and dies for the world market, launched a new version of its best-selling HP100 air/hydraulic cold welder at wire Düsseldorf 2008.
The new HP100 auto model can be used in either normal or automatic mode. In normal mode, the operator loads the material and then presses the foot pedal four to six times to activate the multiple upset process and complete the weld. |

| "Customers are rightly insisting upon very high standards as far as production efficiency goes,"" reports Thomas Holt Jørgensen, Division Executive Manager at the Danish cable solutions company.
"We got further proof of this when we launched the latest model of the Roblon HSLT server at Wire," he says. "It strands aramid and glass yarns around the cable centre at speeds of up to 300 rpm for glass and 400 rpm for aramid, and it really attracted a lot of attention."

| Wire and Tube have presented themselves together in Düsseldorf for the twelfth time now.
The next date for Wire 2010 and Tube 2010 is confirmed: The two leading international trade fairs, Wire, International Wire and Cable Trade Fair, and Tube, International Tube Trade Fair, will show the best their respective industries have to offer from 12 to 16 April 2010. The combined innovative power of these growth industries will again be showcased in the halls of the Düsseldorf Exhibition Centre in 2010. However the successful trade fair duo will not be held in conjunction with Metav in 2010.
